About 3.3 billion people - half of the world's population - are at risk of malaria. Every year, this leads to about 250 million malaria cases and nearly one million deaths. People living in the poorest countries are the most vulnerable.
Malaria is especially a serious problem in Africa, where one in every five (20%) childhood deaths is due to the effects of the disease. An African child has on average between 1.6 and 5.4 episodes of malaria fever each year. And every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria.

just wondering at the thoughts Ruth put on her blog.
Why is swine flu , been handle the way it is, with only 150 something deaths, millions of pounds been promised by the government to give out information and medication and mouth masks. If a quarter of this money was spent on helping countries that suffer from malaria, like providing nets and information and medication, millions of lives would be saved but the truth at the end of the day is class distinction is still very real !
Interesting that people are not rushing out to buy pork and that pork farmers are now requesting that the name be changed. Again showing a great confusion in the masses as vegetarians have been telling people for ever that saturated fat causes heart failure and cancer and osteo and yet people go "whatever " and eat some more ! ODD ?
Double standards .
